'Untitled Arm' (Hannah) 2008-9, at the Whitechapel Gallery, London. 'Untitled Leg' (Hannah) 2008-9 in the Metal workshops Staffs Uni.
I am interested in what would constitute in deciding whether a person would be considered human or artificial at this moment in time or even in the future and what that would imply to our future selves. Through these thoughts I created a number of genetically manipulated mannequin limbs. Through the implimentation of mechanical accets these limbs are able to flow to and fro whilst gently caressing the surfaces they lay on.
There was an seductive quality to these artworks that could mesmerise an observers glance whilst playing with their emotions, and crossing the borders between the ways any onlooker may percieve future technology next to the human body, maybe as percieved comfort toys for nothing more than pleasure. The two 'Hannah's' had simple motions created through very raw materials such as simple spring placements that helped those limbs to achieve abilities of subtly mimicking much more complex human motions than should have been expected of them.
The drawings for Journeys, Track Plans and Pathways were originally drawn in Majestic Gallery 2014, Stoke Town Centre. Set up as a on going installation, a worn sofa and mattress appeared in this room becoming life models for the drawings and active parts of the environment.
